Bob Budd Memorial Targa Rally
A Targa Rally is a cross between a Road Rally and an Autotest. A Targa consists of a course usually marked out by cones, and a set routes which the navigator has to guide the driver around. The aim is to follow the correct route, in the quickest possible time.
Targa Rallies are most commonly held during the daytime, on private land, with twists, turns and obstacles keeping speeds low. Events may be single or multiple venues. Multi-venue Targa Rallies require navigating on public roads between locations as well as
navigating the tests.
Some single venue Targa Rallies, allow you to share the car, taking it in turns to act as driver or navigator. Regardless of the type, teamwork between the driver and navigator is the key.
The first Bob Budd Memorial Targa Rally was held in 2023 and initially organised in memory to Bob Budd, one of the founding members of Mercia Motor Sports. The event was a single venue event held at Mallory Park Racing Circuit in Leicestershire providing nearly 30 miles of tests.
The Interclub event was won by Neil Jones/Aled Jones in a Mazda MX5 with the Clubmans event being won by Oliver Michaels/Ashlee Brownlee in a MG ZR.
